Joan Mas: The Hero of Pollensa
Once again Joan Mas saved the sleeping residents of Pollensa from the Turkish pirate attack led by Admiral Dragut. This re-enactment of a real battle, which took place on 30 May 1550, is celebrated every 2nd August in this beautiful historical town. A similar colourful event takes place in the Port of Soller every May. How amazing that Joan Mas is a household name in his own village almost 500 years after his death!!
